Children in Oak class are given opportunities to explore their environment freely and engage in open ended, hands on and meaningful learning experiences. We following the EYFS Curriculum and have planned themes throughout the year. However, we follow closely the children’s interests and plan activities that will fully engage and inspire them in their learning. We make full use of the Federation mini-bus and take children on outings to provoke interest, allow them to explore real life situations and encourage their natural desire to learn. We also have many visitors come to school to talk to children about their roles in the community.
We have a classroom which is spacious and set up to allow children to move freely around the different areas of learning. Our resources are accessible to the children and enhanced daily to meet children’s learning needs. Children can access the outdoor area as they wish and we have a sheltered area so that children can play outside in all weathers. Outdoor learning is valued in our class and children also have Forest School once a week.
We have 15 iPad and children use these regularly to support their learning, particularly in Literacy and Mathematics.
We believe that cooking is something that should be taught regularly in the Early Years as it enables the teaching of so many key skills. Children also love it! Children cook once every fortnight.
We have a specialist dance teacher who comes in every week to teach dance, linked to our theme for the term.
