The Federation of Priddy & St Lawrence’s

‘To be the best that you can be’

Our School Values and Ethos

The Federation of Priddy Primary and St Lawrence’s C of E Schools, serves two scenic rural communities in Somerset. The two popular schools are approximately 3 miles apart in the villages of Priddy and Westbury-sub-Mendip. They are surrounded by the beautiful landscape and countryside of the Mendip Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both schools are very proud of their successful federation, and work closely together providing a nurturing and caring environment and a wealth of opportunities for our children, staff and communities.

Our values and ethos are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our children as confident, happy citizens.

We aim to:

  • To provide a happy, caring and secure learning environment in which Christian values are a fundamental part.
  • To value each child as an individual who is able to contribute increasingly to the wider community.
  • To foster and develop relationships in an environment where children enjoy their learning and where co-operation and collaboration are encouraged, so that everyone can achieve the highest standard possible in all that they undertake.
  • To develop skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to the needs of each child, giving them full opportunity to develop their potential.
  • To encourage children to make informed choices and become lifelong learners.
  • To respect one another as individuals with differing needs and abilities.
  • To encourage respect for religious and moral values and sensitivity towards others in a multi-racial, multi-cultural society.
  • To enable the children to become thoughtful and responsible, with increasing independence.
  • To keep children safe and promote healthy living.
  • To take advantage of all the benefits associated with being a small school within a village community.
  • To develop spiritual awareness and a sense of wonder.
  • To involve families as partners in working towards the attainment of these goals.

Our School Vision

'Working together to be the best that we can be’

Our core values of compassion, courage and perseverance are embedded across the curriculum and we are passionate about providing a wide range of exciting and engaging learning opportunities and experiences for all children in order for them to flourish as individuals and develop their spiritual understanding. Working as a team, we provide a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment for every child to reach their full potential and be the best that they can be.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep – Luke 15: 3-7

Then Jesus told them this parable:  4“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?  5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbours together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep. 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety -nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

In this story, Jesus uses the shepherd and the sheep to illustrate how much God values each and every one of his people.

This story reminds us of the importance of valuing everyone and creating equal opportunities for all. We all have a responsibility to show compassion, have perseverance and be courageous in everything that we do. In building relationships and working together, we can celebrate success and ultimately, be the best that we can be.

Our values relate to our vision and theological root by:

Compassioncaring for all the sheep.

Courage - searching for the sheep that is lost.

Perseverance - not giving up until the lost sheep is found.
