The Federation of Priddy & St Lawrence’s

‘To be the best that you can be’

Overview

Our Vision

The emotional health and wellbeing of all members of The Federation of Priddy and St. Lawrence’s School (including staff, students and parents) is fundamental to our philosophy and ethos of valuing everyone, caring for each other and achieving excellence.

THE UN CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD states:

Article 24 (health and health services)

Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and wellbeing so that children can stay healthy.

At The Federation of Priddy and St. Lawrence’s School we understand that  feelings of wellbeing are fundamental to the overall health of an individual and their ability to cope with difficulties that they are faced with in life. We understand that wellbeing is distinct from mental and physical health, but strongly interconnected to both. Maintaining good physical health can help support wellbeing and having a good  sense of positive wellbeing can help individuals to manage a specific mental health condition.

We take a holistic approach to wellbeing and are passionate about weaving it deeply into the foundations of everything we do. We know that equipping children with the skills to look after and maintain good emotional health and wellbeing can not only support their cognitive development but enable them to be resilient and independent individuals. We strive to ensure children know how important wellbeing is, how to look after it and where to go for help if they need it. We want children to understand that ‘all emotions are ok’ and how we feel really matters. Our aim is ensure children recognise early signs of poor mental health, pull upon a wealth of strategies/support mechanisms and ultimately go into adulthood well equipped to cope and embrace life.

Key Priorities:

  • To ensure children are able to name, understand and express their feelings and know that all ‘emotions are ok.’

  • To ensure emotional health and wellbeing is central to everything we do.

  • Children develop knowledge and skills to look after their emotional health and wellbeing and are given opportunity to practice and embed these skills.

  • To increase awareness and understanding of mental health and wellbeing amongst our school community and in doing so, eliminate any associated stigma.

  • To provide support as early as possible.

  • Emotional health and wellbeing is everyone's responsibility!
